PROUD OF THE HONOUR

MAORI WOMAN WHO WENT TO SYDNEY CONGRESS The only Maori woman who attended the Eucharistic Congress in Sydney was Ruby Wawatai, of the Taitanga Mahaki tribe, near Gisborne. She returned by the Maheno to-day, wearing the kiwi mat which attracted much attention in Sydney. Ruby Wawatai is thrilled by her visit to Australia. She had never previously been out of New Zealand, and considers that in being chosen to attend the congress a great honour had been conferred on her. With five other chiefs, Ruby Vvawatai was presented to Cardinal* Ceretti and presented him with a sift from her people. One of the chiefs also presented the Cardinal with a greenstone tiki, which he greatly admired.
