LINDRUM GETS LONG LEAD ON McCONACHY

AUSTRALIAN BRILLIANT START OF BILLIARDS MATCH

Completely overshadowing his New Zealand rival with brilliant all-round play, Walter Lindrum, the Australian billiards champion, gained a long lead on Clark McConachy in the opening sessions of an 18,000 match, which started yesterday at the St. James Theatre Buildings. Lindrum fairly monopolised the afternoon session, running to section points (750), while McConachy scored only 107. Tho Australian gave a dazzling exhibition of top-of-tlie-table play and chiefly by nursery cannons, put up two nice breaks of 241 and 279. McCONACHY OUT OF LUCK McConachy’s best break for the afternoon session was 50, as compared with his opponent’s average of 50 for the session. The evening session was largely patronised, and the fans again saw Lindrum in good form. McConachy’s luck was right out, his best effort being a 55 break. Lindrum, on the other hand, turned in a nice break of 167, and three cues later made a splendid all-round break of 224. The session scores were:—W. Lindrum (in play) 1,500; breaks 167. 224. 100, 84, 74 and 57 unfinished; McConachy 374.
