THEFT FROM SAILORS’

YOUTH GETS PROBATION Pleading guilty at the Police Court this morning to charges of stealing a suitcase and two rugs valued at £ 3 3s, from John Douglas Spilman. William Morrison, a young seaman, was admitted to probation for 12 months. “Morrison deserted from a Canadian ship 10 months ago,” said ChiefDetective Hammond. “He was staying at the Sailors’ Home and took the articles when he went to a job in the country. The goods have been recovered and Morrison can go back to his job-” On a further charge of stealing a rug valued at £2 10s from the Sailors’ Home, Morrison was convicted and discharged.
