HIGH COMMISSIONER’S CABLE Under date September 22 the High Commissioner for New Zealand stationed in .London cabled the following market report:— Tallow.—The spot market is firm and business is fair for shipment. Present quotations are:—Mutton: Fine, 44s per S .V ; .£ air to Sood, 42s to 435; dark to to j l ®* sd - Beef: Sweet and or E* c? 1 . to 455: ,air to SOOd, 39s 6d to 4.s bd. Mixed: Fair to good, 40s to 4-s; dark to dull, 38s to 395; gut etc., 37s to 39s 6d. Hemp.—The Manila market is dull and «asy owing to heavy receipts. "J” grade is quoted for October-December shipments at sellers, £34 10s. The sisal market is quiet but firm. No. 1 is quoted at £35 las, and No. 2 at £34 os to £34 10s buyers, September-November shipment. New Zealand: The demand is moderate in all positions, but sellers’ ideas are too high for buyers. Quotations are nominal and unchanged. Stocks In London on August 31 were 86 tons, against 92 tons at the same time last year. Apples.—Pair trade for good quality. Current prices are: Californian Newtons, 13s 6d a case; Gravenstein, 13s 6d: Jonathan. 14s to 15s; Nova Scotian Gravensteins. 20s to 28s a barrel. Wool.—The sales continue with prices at about the opening levels. Slips occasionally are a little weaker and greasy crossbred selling best.
