N.Z. Breweries Firm
Industrials Quiet
A FAIRLY healthy tone was registered on 'Change this morning, although actual business was not spread over a very wide compass.
In the banking group Commercials were dealt with, outside the call room i t 30s sd. A small parcel of New Zealands changed hands at 61s, the market closing with more wanted at 61s 3d. but sellers asking 61s 6dInsurance shares are quiet, but there is a very healthy and sustained demand for two or three of the more popular shares. New Zealands are very firm with a middle price of over 435. Queenslands saw business at 655. New Zealand Breweries are very firm, sellers being hard to locate and buyers have moved up to 53s 6d without drawing a declaration from holders. How high this market will go is bard to forecast, as it seems there is
still a big section of the more speculative elements holding the view that hidden reserves in the concern are extensive and that holders will benefit in the near future. The mining section is quiet and generally idle. The market for miscellaneous securities shows little movement. Business at this morning’s early call. —On ’Change; Taranaki Qils, 8s; Waihi Mining, 13s. Business at mid-day.—On ’Change: Bank of New Zealand, 61s. Reported: Commercial Bank of Australia, 30s sd; Queensland Insurance, 655; P. and O. Shipping, £240: New Zealand Inscribed Stock, 1939, 4J per cent-, £99.
