Reed. 9.40 a.m. CAPETOWN, Friday. The Prime Minister, General Hertzog’s, preliminary general election campaign is arousing interest, by reason of an anticipation that the profits of the . Namaqualand State diamonds will be devoted to irrigation on an extensive scale. It is hoped to dam the Orange aud the Vaal Rivers, by which huge areas will benefit. An airplane brings weekly a valuable parcel of diamonds from Alexander Bay, and it is reported
that approximately £5,000,000 worth have been accumulated at Capetown, although the Government is disposing of only £6,000 worth monthly, so as not to overstock the market, which recently improved. General Hertzog described Namaqualand as a windfall. Namaqualand or Namaland is a maritime division in the north-west part of Cape Colony. Its principal town is Springbokfontein. The Namaquas are a Hottentot tribe.
