ANGLERS PREPARE
NEW SEASON OPENS ON OCTOBER 1 GOOD SPORT PROMISED Anglers are getting their gear ready for the opening day of the trout fishing season on October 1. Rotorua and Lake Taupo open a month later. Better fishing than last season is promised by reports. The season of the Auckland Acclimatisation Society lasts from October to April 30, and that of Rotorua and Taupo from November 1 to May 31. Arapuni Lake to which the Society has been giving some attention, will be open to fishing but trolling has been prohibited there. Large numbers of fresh water shrimps have been liberated at Taupo and these should bring the fish into good condition. When fish were netted at Taupo for tagging recently, they showed improved condition and the officers of the Fisheries Department think that good catches may be expected.
