CLUB SEEKS AVIATION BASE HARBOUR BOARD SYMPATHETIC (From Our Own Correspondent) WHANGAREI, Friday. “The natural surroundings of Whangarei make it certain that it will become a big seaport and aviation centre,” said Mr. R. K. Trimmer, head of a deputation from the Whangarei Airplane Club to the Harbour Board •esterday. The deputation was seeking lease of some 86 acres of the board’s reclaimed land on the harbour frontage, for th© purpose of making an aviation * Mr. 3D. Laurenson, the instructor for the club, explained the natural advantages of the land, which was level, well sheltered and had a fairly constant wind direction. He pointed out that the chief feature was the proximity to the water, as the future held great prospects in New Zealand not only for airplanes, but for flyingboats. . The Harbour Board approved in general of granting the use of the ground subject to the finalising of the matter by the leasing committee.
