PERSONAL—Mr. J. Parton, joint passenger manager of the White Star Line, London, retired from active service recently after 55 years’ employment in the White Star and associated lines. Known to Americans as the “Glad-hander,” Mr. Parton received cable messages from all parts of the world congratulating him upon his services, and wishing him happiness in his retirement. Among the cablegrams that reached him was one from Mr. P. A. S. Franklin, president of the International Mercantile Marine Company, New York.

PORT HUON LEAVES PANAMA.— cabled news has been received by the C. and D. Line that the Port Huon left Panama on Wednesday for New York and London, en route from Auckland. She sailed from Auckland on August 29. KITTAWA DEPARTS. The Union Company’s cargo steamer Kittawa, which has • been sold to Eastern buyers, left Wellington for Newcastle, en route to the East. Captain Cooper is to command. Mr. Shakespeare is chief officer and Mr. Kelly -chief engineer.

NIAGARA FOR SYDNEY. The local office of the Union Company advises that the R.M.S. Niagara, from Vancouver and way ports, is expected to arrive at Auckland on Monday, October 3, and it is hoped to dispatch her from this port at 11 o’clock the same evening for Sydney.

PORT DARWIN LEAVES PANAMA.— The C. and D. Line has been advised by a cablegram that the Port Darwin left Panama Canal on Wednesdav for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton and Dunedin, en route from Liverpool. The vessel is due at Auckland on October 12, and Heather, Roberton, Ltd., will act as the local agents. MAUI POMARE REPORTS.—The Government steamer Maui Pomare, en route from Apia and Niue to Dunedin, has reported by wireless that she expects to ■arrive at the Otago port at noon to-day. She will later proceed to Lyttelton, Wellington and Auckland, and go thence to Norfolk Island. She is due here on September 27 and sails again on September 29. Spedding, Ltd., will act as the local agents. ✓

RAVENSCAR’S VOYAGE.—The Bri•tish tramp steamer Ravenscar arrived at Wellington at 1.45 a.m. on Thursday from Sataja, Red Sea, with a cargo of phosphates, for the purpose of replenishing her bunkers. The vessel left Safaja on July 26, and called at Perim, Colombo and Bunbury. Moderate winds and seas prevailed throughout the voyage. It was proposed that the Ravenscar bunker at Westport, but as the bar was not workable the vessel came on to Wellington instead. The Ravenscar left Wellington yesterday for Auckland, to put out part cargo and is due here Monday afternoon. She rturns later to Wellington to complete discharge. Captain J. T. Taylor is master of the Ravenscar, and his officers are:—Chief, Mr. H. Williams; second, Mr. A. W. Mitchell; chief engineer, Mr. P. S. Barnard; second, Mr. F. W. Hyde; third, Mr. A. Griffiths; fourth, Mr. C. Lake; wireless operator, Mr. M. F. McGrath. The vessel has a European crew. Henderson and Macfarlane will act as the local agents.

MAILS ARRIVING.—The Chief Postmaster advises that the R.M.M.S. Aorangi, which left Sydney on September 20, and is due at Auckland on September 24. is bringing 335 bags of English. Eastern, and Australian mails for Auckland.

TARANAKI AT LONDON. —The Shaw, Savill and Albion Company’s new motorship Taranaki, which sailed from Auckland for London, Avonmouth, Liverpool and Glasgow on August 16, is reported to have reached last Thursday.

CORINTH 1C FOR HOME.—The Shaw, Savill and Albion Company advises that the White Star liner Corinthic, now completing her loading at Wellington, leaves there at daybreak next Wednesday, September 26, for Southampton and London, via Panama.

MAHENO LEAVES SYDNEY. Cable advice received by the local office of the Union Company states that the passenger steamer Maheno left Sydney at noon yesterday for Auckland, where she is due next Tuesday morning. She has been allotted a berth at the Queen’s Wharf.

THE GOLDEN STATE.—The American steamer Golden State is scheduled to reach Auckland next Wednesday w r ith case oil, lumber and general cargo from Pacific Coast ports. She will unload at Auckland, Wellington and Dunedin. Henderson and Macfarlane, Limited, are the local agents. )

THE CANADIAN TRANSPORTER.— The Canadian National Steamships steamer Canadian Transporter is scheduled to leave Dunedin on Tuesday next for Auckland, via Wellington, to complete loading for her return trip to Montreal. The vessel is expected to arrive at Auckland next Saturday, and may be dispatched the same evening for Montreal, via New York and Boston.-

AORANGI DUE 6 A.M. MONDAY.— According to a radio message received by the local office of the Union Company, the R.M.M.S. Aorangi, from Sydney, is expected to arrive in the stream at Auckland at 6 o’clock on Monday morning. She will berth about 8 a.m. at the Prince’s Wharf, and at 11 a.m. on Tuesday she leaves Auckland for Suva, Honolulu, Victoria and Vancouver.

PAKEHA DUE MONDAY. Leaving Waikokopu to-night for Auckland, the Shaw, Savill and Albion steamer Pakeha is due at Auckland on Monday morning, and will berth at the Queen’s Wharf to fill up for Home, under the agency of L. D. Nathan and Company. She is scheduled to sail from this port on Friday next, September 28, for London, via Montevideo and TenerifEe.

PORT HUNTER' FROM NEW YORK. —Due at Auckland to-morow morning from New York, the C. and D. Line’s steamer Port Hunter will berth at the Prince’s Wharf to unload 1,700 tons of general cargo under the auspices of the Co-operative Auctioneering Company. She leaves here on Tuesday for Wellington, Lyttelton and Dunedin to complete discharge.

MATAKANA.—The Shaw, Savill and Albion steamer Matakana is sche- ~? led - , to clear Liverpool on September 29 with general merchandise from West Coast ports of Great Britain for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton and Dunedin RUAHINE AT COLON.—The New Zealand Shipping Company’s liner Ruahine 1» reported to have reached Colon last Tnursday. en route from London and Southampton to Wellington and Lyttelton. She is scheduled to reach Wellington on October 10.

lONIC REPORTS—L. D. Nathan and Company, Limited, reports that wireless advice from the Shaw, Savill and Albion liner lonic states she will reach Wellington from London and Southampton next Tuesday. The vessel* has passengers and mail for New Zealand and general merchandise for discharge at Wellington and Auckland. She is due at Auckland about October 3, and after completion of discharge will commence loading at this port for her homeward voyage. TRANS-PACIFIC CARGO STEAM ERS. —The Union Company advises the following movements of vessels engaged in the trans-Pacific cargo services:— The Waiherao will leave Suva on Monday for Vancouver and San Francisco to load for Auckland. Wellington, Mel-boux-ne and Sydney. She is due at Vancouver on October 15, and is expected to clear San Francisco about November S. The Wairuna leaves Napier on Monday for Lyttelton. Dunedin, New Plymouth Auckland. Apia, Fanning Island and Vancouver.

The Waxotapu left Los Angeles on September 2 for Wellington, Melbourne and Sydney, and is due at Wellington on September 2S.

The Waikawa from Los Angeles arrived at Apia on Thursday, and will sail again on Monday next for Auckland, Nelson, Bluff, Melbourne and Sydney. She is due at Auckland on October 2. The Hauraki left Los Angeles on Wednesday for Auckland, Wellington, Melbourne, Adelaide and Sydney, and is due at Auckland on October 11. The Waitemata arrived at Vancouver on September 16, and will load at New Westminster, Union Bay, and Ocean Falls. She is expected to clear the lastnamed port on September 29 for- San Francisco and Los Angeles, to complete loading for Auckland, Napier, Lyttelton, Dunedin, Nelson and New Plymouth. She is expected to clear Los Angeles on October 9, and is due at Auckland on November 2.
