£50,000 to be Spent on Helensville Road

HENDERSON TO KUMEU METAL AND BITUMEN The reco net ruction and a-half miles of the main highway between Henderson and Kumeu, at an estimated cost of £49*960. was considered at a meeting of the Waitemata County Council yesterday. Of the total cost, the Main Highways Board would provide £36,960, and the council the balance. It was decided that the council make application to the Local Government Loans Board for permission to submit the proposal to the ratepayers. The section under consideration is from Lincoln Bridge, just beyond the end of the concrete at Henderson, to Kumeu. Included in the scheme is the rebuilding of Brigham’s Creek bridge ia permanent materials. It is proposed to regrade, straighten, and surface the whole of the stretch for a width of 18 feet with ten inches of metal t with bitumen by the peneration method. The Main Highways Board has stated its willingness to put the work in hand as soon as the ratepayers give their sanction. The existing metal track is almost impossible to maintain in fair order, and £5,100 has been spent on the road out of the general rates during the past three years. The Loans Board will be approached also for permission to raise a further £IO,OOO for road works and improvements in other parts of the county. This will carry a Government subsidy, and the work will include the reconstruction of the following bridges, with the necessary approach roads: Waitakere station bridge, Taupaki, Nos. 1 and 2; Nelson Road, Leslie’s Bridge, Crowe’s Bridge, and Boyd Bridge. The loan provides further for the complete formation and metalling of McEntee’s Road, the metalling of Red Hill Road, metalling of portion of Royal Road, complete metalling of Riverlea Wharf Road, complete metalling of Puriri and Kauri Roads, metalling of portion of Punga Road, and the purchase of plant, including roller, crusher, light truck, and bitumen plant.
