This firm’s electric slipway is available at- all times and tho most modern gear and machinery is used. * * * Another firm specialising in overhauls and repairs is Chas. Bailey and Son, ship, yacht and boat builders, of Freeman’s Bay. A patent slip is available and provides storage for yachts and launches. * - #• Marine engines of all types made by Ailsa Craig are handled by F. I>. Woodroffe and Co., of Lome Street, whose resources are available to all powercraft owners, and to those who are intending to equip their boats with power plants. Universal motors are stocked by Ceilings and Bell, Leo. A. Walsh is the agent for the well-known Kelvin
motors, and R. P. M. Manning; specialises in outboard motors of the 'Wisconsin brand. Reference to outboard motors conveys the reminder that this type of marine engine promises to be still more popular this season. They have the advantage of economy, and modern models are perfectly reliable. The famous Evinrude outboard motor is stocked by John Burns and Co., who are also suppliers of all marine goods and equipment, while Collings and Bell stock the Elto motor. One of the best known makes of outboard engines is the Johnson, for which the Farmers’ Trading Company, Ltd., advertising on this page, are agents. These engines have found popularity wherever used and are found perfectly dependable. Weighing only 371bs they are easily transported and are thus ideal for those who live at a distance from the water, yet wish to enjoy all the pleasures of motorboating. Johnson engines are made in three sizes the largest of which develops up to nine horse-power. Several of the speediest racing outboards are powered Johnson motors. U. N. Burgess, whose works are on Parnell Rise, near Carlaw Park, has a reputation for dependable work, gained through 24 years’ experience of marine engines of all kinds. The firm is agent for several eminent makes of outboard engines. The famous “Kennedy” all-Britisli propellers are procurable at Burgess’s. A specialty is repairs and adjustments to outboard engines. * * * Sails of every quality and design may be obtained from Cairns and Woodward, who also supply deck canvas, covers and canopies of all kinds. Electrical equipment for every type of installation is always available at the premises of the Regina Motories, Ltd.,
a firm that will undertake engine overhauling work. Gear-cutting and oxy-acctone welding is carried out by A. and G. Price, Ltd., and Alf. Williams, of College Hill, carries a big stock of engines and general mechanical equipment. The Warren Engineering Co., Ltd., of Hobson Street, is another firm that specialises in marine repairs, and carries stocks of fittings. * _ * * Wingate’s is a well-known headquarters for nautical equipment, particularly for yachts, and every springtime requirement of the Auckland owner can be satisfied speedily. This firm also distributes Petrifax paints. Warman and Sons, furnishers for yachts, know thoroughly the requirements of owners in the matter of upholstering and furnishing, and A. Foster and Co., offers a ship’s chandlery and engineering stores for marine equipment. • * • P. Thode is a recognised authority on yachtsmen’s and launch-owners’ requirements, and his values for boats of all types may be accepted with every confidence. P. Vos, a wellknown builder at Freeman’s Bay, is also willing to submit estimates, and his premises are equipped with a patent slip. Paint of good quality is needed by everyone, and among the outstanding brands is that of Leighs’, distributed by Morris, Black and Matheson, Ltd. * * * There is also provision for the enthusiast who does not possess a boat of any type. The Auckland Launch and Tow Boat Co., Ltd., (the Blue Boats), caters for trips, picnics and camping parties at the shortest notice. * * * Still another nautical service is offered by J. W. Richmond, whose Quay Street school prepares pupils for all grades of marine examinations.
