WOMEN AT GOLF AN “AT HOME” Over 30 members of the Otaliuhu Women’s Golf Club met on the Favona Links on Wednesday afternoon at the invitation of the captain, Miss Marjorie Cutforth, and spent a very enjoyable afternoon in playing a medal round. In a 13-hole match, Mrs. Shaw won with a net score of 50, Misses Darrach and McArthur jointly filled the position of runner-up, with 54 net. At the conclusion of play, the members were the guests at afternoon tea. after which Mrs. W. W. Massey thanked, the hostess on behalf of the gathering. WAINGARO WOMEN MEETING OF INSTITUTE The Waingaro Women's Institute held a special meeting recently at Mrs. Parsons’s homo to meet Miss Spencer, the chief organiser. The president introduced Miss Spencer, who expressed her pleasure at being present at almost the anniversary of the formation of the institute. The growth of the movement during the year was reviewed by Miss Spencer, and many questions concerning the welfare of the institutes were discussed. The speaker was accorded a vote of thanks for her interesting address. GARDEN PARTY A garden party was given by Mrs. Lewis at her residence, Herriesville, last Monday afternoon, in aid of funds for the approaching Presbyterian bazaar. There was a large number present, and afternoon tea was served on the lawn. Numerous competitions were held, the most amuising being “crazy” croquet. The sum of £ 4 was raised, besides numerous contributions for the children’s Christmas tree. Among those present were Mesdames Haslip, Meikle, Jennings, Monson, Schell, Margison, H. Strange, Goldsworthy, D. Wallace, jun., Wallace, sen., Godkin, Milne, Cullen, Boles, Loughlin, Hepburn, Wilde, Tremaine and Miss Butcher. WOMEN’S GOLF The playing members of the Waiuku Ladies’ Golf Club entertained the honorary members, president and vicepresidents at the clubhouse on Tuesday. An approaching and putting competition for a rose bowl presented by Mrs. Barnes was won by Miss W. West.
Two competitiSns were won by Misses E. Barriball and K. Motion respectively. On behalf of the players, Mrs. Forbes thanked the guests for their great assistance to the club during the season. Miss Glynes, on behalf of the members, presented Mrs. Forbes with a golf bag, as a token of appreciation for the manner in which she had car--1 ried out her duties of captain
CITIZENS’ BALL FUNCTION AT THAMES A citizens’ ball was held in Thames on Tuesday evening to raise funds for the permanent lighting of the Thames Peace Memorial and for the purchase of a motor-reel for the Fire Brigade. The King’s Theatre was artistically decorated a committee led by Messrs. A. E. Court and W. B. Teasdale. The supper and table decorations were arranged by Mesdames Bongard, McCullough, Watson, Grubb, Rockley and Pratt. Visitors were present from Paeroa, Thames Valley, Hauraki Plains and the Coast, and the hall was crowded. The M.C.’s were Messrs J. Griffin, H. Cordes and H. Murray. RITZ DANCE CLUB The members of the Ritz Club held a bright dance party in the Foresters’ Hall at Devonport during the week. The hall was gaily decorated and excellent music was supplied by tfie club orchestra. Among those present were; Mrs. Waterhouse, model of black and gold lace worn over lime crepe de chine. Mrs. A. Parry, of 39 Marsden Avenue, assembled "at her home last Wednesday evening to celebrate her 81st birthday. The time was passed with games and dancing, and during the supper Mrs. Parry cut the birthday cake that had been sent to her by her daughter, Mrs. P. Barker, of Kaueranga. Mrs. Parry was born in Rhyl, South Wales, and came to New Zealand with her husband in the seventies.
MASONIC DANCE ALBION LODGE Lodge Albion, Devonport, entertained this week in its hall for the first occasion for a long time. The hall was artistically beflagged ,and the decorations were novel, consisting of a series of large-sized pictures of English life and scenes. The Kit Kat Band supplied music for the dancing.
