SINGLETON WILL OPPOSE TRESHAM
PARK STAKES AT NAPIER PROSPECTS SUMMED UP Comparatively small fields will be saddled up at ♦Greenmeadows to-mor-row on the occasion of the Napier Park spring meeting. There are only half a dozen in the principal handicap, and five in the sprint, so it really looks as if another totalisator slump is in prospect. The greatly improved Singleton will be on hand in the Park Stakes, and as the small field will be all in his favour, it is probable that he may account for Tresham at a difference of 111 b. With Gaze, Cohesion. Star God and Morose, the others engaged, it is obviously not a good field. Kaiti has been racing—and winning, too—right through the winter, and in the sprint he will have it on the speedy Joy King st> far as condition goes. The two-year-olds figure in the Prince of Wales Stakes, and the halfdozen nominated survived the acceptance. Admiral Drake was progressing nicely in his preparation up to a little while back, when he appeared to go off. Little is known of the others, although Cuticle is said to have displayed promise. The following should come in for support in their engagements: Prince of Wales Stakes.— Cuticle and Lordlike. Trial Handicap.— Kinross and Havana. Greenmeadows Hurdles. —Ba 11yf ar - non and Lieut. Bill. Park Stakes.— Singleton and Tresham. Ahuriri Handicap.— Dreamy and Kalos. Taradale High-weight.— Starboard Light and Comical. Railway Handicap.— Kaiti and Joy King. County Handicap.— Royal Lineage and Abisogne. L. G. Morris will be at the meeting to ride Kaiti, Abisogne and Comical. He will be at Avondale for Monday. The acceptances are as follow: PRINCE OF WALES STAKES Of £100; for two-year-olds; 4 furlongs.
Overlooked Again The fact that R. Reed is likely to go to Sydney to ride Limerick will not be appreciated by a certain writer in that quarter. Three guesses ? Compensation for Jockey On the application of the Australian Jockey Club and Patrick Nolan, the Workers’ Compensation Commission at Sydney last week ordered a redemption payment of £598 to M. Webster, in addition to £lO2 already paid. On October 1, 1927, A. Webster fell from his horse in a hurdle race and sustained injuries to his spine, which resulted in his incapacity to continue riding. Well Represented Mr. F. Bristol, in whose name The Warden races, comes from a very old racing family, and those who took an interest in racing of a decade back will remember the black and amber colours of his father, so ably carried by Swift, Light, Leonta, and many others. Mr. Bristol evidently intends racing on a fairly extensive scale in the near future, as in addition to having The Warden trained, a three-quarter brother to that good horse. Illumination, and a two-year-old that claims Chief Ruler—Haupai as its breeding, are being prepared for Mr. Bristol at Wanganui. Although The Warden had not been in work long, he ran excellent races and displayed gameness at Mar ton and Wanganui. He is freely engaged in the season’s three-year-old races, but his owner has now decided to give him a chance to build up, hence he will probably not race before Christmas, if then. This decision is a wise one, as, given time, the Australian-bred will certainly pay his way.
