BOARD OF MANAGERS MEETS A letter was received at yesterday’s meeting of the Board of Managers of the Seddon Memorial College, from the Education Department, saying that the department refused to subsidise the money spent on equipping the board’s new gymnasium. The board protested against the department’s action and, on the motion of Mr. C. A. Watts, it was decided to set up a committee to approach the Minister of Education. The committee was also given power to take further action if necessary. Mr. H. S. W. King, who has been chairman of the board for the past six years, was re-elected for another year, and Mr. C. A. Watts was elected de-puty-chairman. The following committees were set up:—Executive, Miss Carnachan, Messrs. R. F. Barter, C. H. Furness, W. N. Mclntosh, T. G. Julian, C. A. Watts, G. Brownlie and IT- S. W. King; finance, Messrs. G. Brownlee, C. A. Watts, J. P. McPhail, K. W. Aimer and H. S. W. King; appointments, Miss Carnachan, Messrs. H. S. W. King, R. F. Barter, C. A. Watts and W. N. Mclntosh. It was decided to accept the terms offered by the British and Mercantile Insurance Company for insuring the board against its legal liability for accidents to pupils. The finance committee reported that it had passed accounts totalling £4,225 7s 2d for payment. The chairman announced that the Mayor, Mr. G. Baildon, had consented to open the new assembly hall, which has recently been completed, on October 3.
