TUDOR, REMUERA
“THE PATSY” “The Patsy” is the title of the new picture to be shown at the Tudor Theatre, Remuera, this evening. The star is Marion Davies, who will be remembered for many delightful pictures in the past, although few, if any, surpass “The Patsy” in laughs. Marion is seen at her best in the role of a younger sister who is hopelessly outclassed in love affairs by her sister. Finally, her sister stole a boy “Pat” really cared for. She immediately set about improving herself to win him back. -The “self-improvement” course was studied from a book, with some surprising results. A feature of the picture is the original and humorous nature of the “smart” sayings used by “Pat.” The second picture this evening is “The Silver Slave,” a society story full of dramatic and romantic scenes. Irene Rich is the star. GRAND SHOWS “GIRL SOT” “Chicken a la King,” a comedy starring Nancy Carroll, is the picture to be shown at the Grand Theatre this evening. The story concerns a middle-aged married man who strays from his cosy fireside and becomes a leading figure in the night life of New York. He becomes interested in a burlesque girl who has an idea that the correct world would suffer a loss unless she receives immediate voice culture.
With the aid of a girl chum, *he makes a play for his favours and is installed in a magnificent apartment with the best vocal teachers at her disposal. However, friend wife gets wind of his generosity and in a novel manner receives the benefits of his largess and brings him back to the fold, very much crestfallen. Harold Lloyd in “Girl Shy” is the second attraction. “MIDNIGHT ROSE” AT CAPITOL A tremendously moving and powerful love story set against the sordid background of the underworld is “Midnight Rose,” to be shown this evening at the Capitol Theatre, starring Lya De Putti and Kenneth Harlan. This picture will without a doubt establish Miss De Putti as one pf the most emotional of screen stars. Her deft characterisation of the cabaret dancer will win for her many admirers and the depth of her portrayal will disturb the hearts of those who have never been subjected to the temptations of the glitter of the night life of a big city. “Under the Toto Rim,” the wellknown Zane Gray story, is the second attraction.
