LYRIC AND EMBASSY

ARGUS AND PICTURES Youth, romance and whimsical comedy, fine direction and Lois Moran and Neil Hamilton in the featured roles all make “Don't Marry,” which opened last evening: at the Lyric and Embassy Theatres, a bright, sparkling comedy-drama, suitable for the most discriminating theatregoer. Here is a picture that is good entertainment for the entire family, with Lois Moran in the dual role and Neil Hamilton as the man in the case. Claire McDowell and Henry Kolker also add to the picture. The theme of the story concerns Priscilla Bowen (Lois Moran), an intriguing young flapper, who foils in love with Henry Willoughby, an oldfashioned man. Undaunted, Priscilla decides to win him and poses as a shy and prudish old-fashioned girl, telling him it is her cousin who is the flapper. The deception works, but Priscilla decides she cannot go Ihrdugh with the wedding until Henry knows the truth. She goes back to the modern clothes and Henry finds himself falling in love with whom he supposes is the cousin of his fiancee. This complex state of affairs leads to one riotous situation aftei; another and races along to a hilarious climax as Henry finds he married the modern girl. Argus, the boy wonder, whose name has become a household one with Aucklanders, again demonstrated his remarkable, powers. He read people’s questions, peered into packages and envelopes, and showed that nothing was hid from him. His appearance, together with his father, was the signal for an outburst of applause and there were many expressions of amazement at the conclusion of his act.

An excellent supporting programme was also shown.
