SORRY NEXT MORNING

LAID CHARGE WHILE DRUNK “This witness came to me yesterday to try and get the charge withdrawn,” said Sub-Inspector McCarthy, when Daniel South was giving evidence at the Police Court this morning. South said that L. Murray, who was charged with assaulting him. had only pushed him and told him to go home. It was not true that se had complained to the constable or that his nose was bleeding. ■ “The truth Is that this man was drunk at the time.” said the SubInspector. “He lias 40 convictions against him, most of them for assault.” Murray was ordered to pay costs. Tho information against J. Grant, who was charged with assaulting David Silver after an argument about some bottles of beer, was dismissed, there not being sufficient evidence to substantiate the charge.
