GIRL KILLED BY TANK
__._... FIRST CIVILIAN DEATH LONDON, Sept. 12. The first tank accident in which a civilian was killed occurred at Cuckfleld, Sussex. The victim was a girl cyclist who had dismounted in a. narrow road to watch a column of tanks returning from manoeuvres. The leader diverged to avoid a motor-lorry, and the tank driver, unable to correct the swerve, crashed into the girl, who was caught in the caterpillar tractors, dragged beneath them and crushed. One of her arms had to be amputated before the body could be released.
