An Ellangowan Colt The colt by Ellangowan from Vibration, purchased in England by Mr. J. R. McKenzie, arrived at Riccarton on Saturday. The youngster-, who is a yearling by English time, has joined T. H. Gillett's stable. Impertinence Doing Nicely The three-year-old filly Impertinence, trained by H. and A. Cutts, is going along nicely in her preparation for spring racing. She claims an engagement in the Trial Plate, to be run at Ashburton on Saturday, and she should be capable of a good showing in the live-furlong race. Gesto All Right Word has been received at Hastings that Gesto, who did not do too well when he first went to Australia, has now recovered his health, and at Hawkesbury on Saturday next is expected to make a bold bid for victory. Gesto’s two-year-old sister will race as Virginia. By Any Other Name? What's in a name? The cognomen of Malahat has been applied for for the Gasbag—Lady Louisa youngster, the property of Mr. G. S. Symons, of Gisborne. who is an inmate of G. New’s stable at Awapuni. Malahat was a Scottish rum-runner who was never caught in his illicit trading operations In America. The youngster might likewise show a clean pair of heels.
.Pakuranga Hunt Meeting ' This is to be held at Ellerslie on Saturday week. \Veights are due to make their appearance on Tuesday next, and acceptances close at midday on Wednesday. Withdrawn The recent good form shown by the three—year-old Te Aitiawa indicated that he might have played a. prominent part in his Avondale engagements. but apparently the rise in weight that followed his Wangzmui success was not appreciated, hence his withdrawal from all engagements at the meeting. His engagements included the two open sprints on Saturday and the Guineas on Monday. Master Doon Coming Back? ‘ Master Doon claims a double engagement at Avondale on Saturday, and if the present plan is adhered to, he will contest both the Members’ and the Henderson Handicaps. Master Doon has been accomplishing all his fast work in company with I—loariri, who has overshadowed his companion as regards speed. Nevertheless the Master still retains some of his old-time dash, for he and Hoariri have been recording some very fast times of late.
