“JOY-RIDERS” ESCAPE INJURY (Special to THE SUN) NEW PLYMOUTH; Wednesday. Sudden darkness fell in Inglewood early this morning when a motor-car, which had been removed from outside the home of Mr. Campbell the previous evening, crashed into an electric power transmission pole and broke the wires. The “joy-riders” all escaped injury, although the broken wires, which had been carrying 6,000 volts, fell quite near them. . It was half an hour before a repair gang from New Plymouth were on the scene. but power was then soon restored to the town. It was not until 8 a.m., however, that power was available for the Kent and Albert Roads district. Farmers were forced to hand-milk. The car was badly damaged, the radiator, right-hand headlight, and front of. the engine being a. total loss and the chassis and sedan body being badly strained.
