MUNICIPAL CONCERT

BAND PROGRAMME An excellent programme was presented by the Municipal Band, under direction of Mr. Chritopher Smith, at the Town Hall last evening. Mr. R. J. Peter was the assisting vocalist. Principal features of the programme were the first and second movements and the finale of Beethoven’s C Minor symphony, the grand march from “Tannhauser,” Sibelius’ tone poem, “Finlandia,” and “Slavonic Dances,” by Dvorak. Mr. Peter sang very effectively Schubert’s “Serenade,” and “The Woodland Flower,” by Thomas. Mr. Leo Whittaker was the accompanist.

BOTANICAL GARDENS

LECTURE AT UNIVERSITY The director of the Dominion Mus--eum, Mr. W. R. B. Oliver, M.Sc., F.L.S.. will give a public lantern lecture in‘ the Auckland University College Haii‘ this evening on botanical gardens. The lecture has been arranged by} the New Zealand Institute of Horti-1 culture, the University College Coun-\ oil and the Auckland Institute and‘ Museum and other bodies. ‘ Professor H. H. Corbin, president of ‘the New Zealand Institute of Horticulture, will preside. . ‘ A number of' native plants will be on exhibition during the evening. %
