CITY COUNCIL AGREES TO TRANSPORT BOARD
DECISION CONFIRMED SUBJECT TO RATEPAYERS’ APPROVAL The City Council, at a special meeting this afternoon. confirmed its dt vision that a Transport Hoard Ik* agreed to. subject to approval of tl city ratepayers after legislation passed enabling the city transport undertaking to be handed over to a board. Cr. W. 11. Murray, who was not present at the last meeting, suggested that instead of the six representatives of the council being appointed to hold office for some years they should bo elected for one year, anil after that should be elected by the usual franchise. Cr. M. J. Coyle said this aspect l»ad been discussed but the council thought it lx*tter to adopt the transport commissions recommendation, and lea\<Parliament to make alterations if it thought them advisable. The decision was confirmed.
