FIRST PAYMENT N.Z. TROTTING CUP FOUR DECLINE ENGAGEMENT Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, To-day. The first payment for the New Zealand Trotting Cup was received to-day, when of the 22 horses nominated, four have forfeited their engagement. The four defaulters are Acron, Logan Chief, Terence Billon and Jewel Pointer. No surprise will be expressed at the defection of Acron and Logan Chief from such a strong field as that engaged in this year’s big event, and the severe penalty inflicted on Jewel Pointer for his consistency at the National fixture would cause his owner to abandon the idea of trying to win the rich stake. ' There will be disappointment in many quarters at the absence of Terence Billon, as he was looked upon as one of the big possibilities.— (“Abaydos.”).
