EARL OF DURHAM DEAD

(Australian and N.Z. Pres 3 Association) (United Service) LONDON, Tuesday. The death has occurred of the Earl of Durham, aged 73.

John George Lambton, third Earl of Durham, was born on June 11), 1855. He was the son of the second earl and Beatrix, daughter of the first Duke of Abercorn. He succeeded his father in 1879. He married Ethel, second daughter of Henry B. M. Milner, of Notts, in 1882. He was Chancellor of Durham University and from 1877-79 was a lieutenant in the Coldstream Guards. He owned about 30,500 acres of land. The earl’s heir is his twin brother, the Hon. Frederick Lambton.
