“MR. ELDER” JOINS BYRD

HUSBAND OF OCEAN FLYER (United Service) BALBOA, Monday. There was an unexpected addition to the crew of Commander Richard Byrd’s schooner City of New York, which he will use on his Antarctic expedition. Mr. Lyle Womack, the estranged husband of Miss Ruth Elder, the woman who took part in a transatlantic flight, joined the ship to-day before she sailed for Dunedin. Mrs. Womack is now acting for the films.

A message from New York on September 7 said Mr. Lyle Womack had started a suit for divorce. He charges his wife with mental cruelty and failure to live with him. “She’s now in Hollywood, while my friends jocularly call me “Mr. Ruth Elder,*’ said the aggrieved husband.
