NORTHCOTE BOROUGH NOTES
The Xorthcote Borough Council met last evening, the Mayor, Mr. A. L. Greenslade, presiding. It was resolved that Mr. IVeavcr, chairman of the works committee, should visit Wellington to endeavour to expedite arangements in connection with the loan proposals. Mr. A. Harris, M.P., who represented the council on the depuation to the Minister of Public Works to urge consideration of a subsidy toward tlie concrete paving of Green Street, just completed without*any assistance fiomthe Highways Board, wrote stating he was endeavouring the secure an early decision. However, the chances of immediate success were not hopeful. The Hon. K. S. Williams, Minister of Public Works, advised that the question was still under consideration bv the Government. 'The Hon. A. D. McLeod, Minister m Charge of Scenery Preservation, wrote stating the suggestion to extend the period of the Xorthcote Council's control of Kauri Gully scenic reserve until 1941 was under consideration. Mr Andrew Murray, engineer to the Waitemata County Council, intimated his council had agreed to pay £25 toward surfacing portion of Kauri Glen boundary road, but that the formation was too soft to enable satisfactory work to be done until later in the summer months. It was agreed to carry out the work on this understanding. The request of the Ratepayers' Association that the 1.13 p.m Saturday vehicular steamer from Birkenhead should also call in at Xorthcote is to be placed before the Devonport Ferry Company.
