MINING NEWS

ALBURN I A.—The manager reports:— ! “Tl?« drive north on the hanging--wall 1 branch of the Orlando reef has been driven 7ft., a total of 255 ft., from the centre of the main crosscut west. The reef here averages lOin. wide and carries a fair amount of mineral and silica. The country rock on both walls is a good firm class for making gold. The No. 2 rise on the hanging-wall branch of the Orlando reef has been risen Sft., a total of 29ft. The reef here averages 2ft 6in wide. It is a strong body again, carrying a fair amount of nice mineral, antimony and silica, and should make gold at any time, as the country rock on J>oth walls is of a splendid class, being interlaced with mineral veins and flinty seams. The No. 1 rise on the footwall dropper of the Sons of Freedom reef has been risen sft.. a total of lift. The reef here at present is lOin. wide, but there is a formation of stringers about 2ft wide and some of the ore looks very promising for making gold. This rise is a three-way rise, being- over 10ft long, with two passes and ladder-way. A start has also been made to carry along a leading stope on the hanging-wall branch of the Orlando reef from tiro winze north. Holes have been oore.l along the reef of the drive r '■ ng. These holes will be fired this week.’* LUCKY SHOT.—The manager reports: “The drive north on me ioot\vall dropper from the bottom of No. 2 winze lias been extended 10 feet. The face is now out 25 feet from the winze. Although no picked stone has been secured, colours of gold are visible in the ore which is very heavily mineralised. During the coming week I intend driving on the main reef south to connect with No. 1 winze. This-will improve the ventilation, and so far as developments have gone in this direction, it has every appearance of opening up a large block of high-grade ore.”
