The Far North
Preparing, for Motor Tourists This Summer With, the approach of fine weather the Touring Department of the A.A.A. advises that many clay roads in the North Auckland district are now beginning to dry sufficiently to admit motor traffic. Many routes, however, are still not advised for the average motorist, but with the passing of another few weeks cars will again be proceeding and graders will be hard at work reducing the rutted clay surfaces to the required standard to permit comfortable travelling. The new road through the Waipoua Forest is being metalled, but the work has been delayed by wet weather and it is doubtful if the metal link will be completed before Christmas. The remaining portions of clay will, however, not cause any inconvenience if the weather is at all line. TROUNSON KAURI PARK Ample provision is being made for campers at the Trounson Kauri Park and a new road is being formed from the east to west side of the park for the convenience of visitors. Stretching north from the Bay of Islands and Kawakawa, there is now a metal surface through to Kaitaia and there is every probability of the Whangarei-Kawakawa route providing an all-weather road during the next few years. The North will then really come into its own from a touring point of view and hundreds of motorists who have feared the clay surfaces will find new grounds to explore. TO BE SIGNPOSTED
The A.A.A. has mapped out a comprehensive tour in the North for the signposting patrol before Christmas opened this Christmas will be effecand all new roads which are to be tively signposted before touring motorists take their holidays.
