PERSIA-IRAQ QUARREL
TACTLESS GENEVA TALK DELEGATE REBUFFED (Australian and N’.Z. Press Association) (United Service) GENEVA, Saturday. Persia has signalised her elevation to ths Council of the League of Nations by raising before a committee which has nothing to do with it her quarrel with Iraq. She alleged irritation on the frontier, and blamed India for the introduction of a plague of cholera from India. A rather tactless speech by the Persian delegate drew a sharp rejoinder from Mr. G. T. Locker-Lampson, British Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs, who pointed out that it was strange to hear a demand for judicial privileges for the 200,000 Persians in Iraq when Persia was abolishing all such privileges in her own country. Admittedly Persia’s relations with Iraq were not very happy, but goodwill, not such speeches as that made by Persia’s delegate, was the remedy. Sir M. U. Malik (India) challenged the allegation of the infection of Persia from his country, and curtly told the Persian representative if he had complaints to address them to the Indian Government. ]
