ROBERTS WINS TITLE AUCKLAND CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL The- Auckland amateur billiards championship was concluded on Saturday evening when E. V. Roberts, the New Zealand champion, defeated A. Scott. Roberts maintained his good lead of the first session, and although his opponent improved his play considerably, Roberts at no stage of the session looked like being defeated. The first session scores were: Roberts, 501, in play; Scott, 261. Roberts did not increase his unfinished break of the previous session by much, but at two later visits he made a 39 break. Scott improved on this effort and ran up a nice all-round break of 54 before failing and two cues later added runs of 24 and 23 to his total. Roberts continued to play up to his previous session’s average and in quick time added all-round breaks of 34, 40 and 37. The scores at this stage were' 712 to 429. Scott’s play improved considerably at this stage and breaks of 37, 30, 28 and 40 decreased bis opponent’s lead considerably. Roberts earned unstinted applause for two remarkable doubl.e baulk cannons. Being double baulked twice by his opponent he judged the angles correctly and making his ball strike three cushions out of baullj. brought off two clever shots. His next effort of note was a run of 23, 27, 28 and 33, making the score 898 to 636 in his favour. His opponent made two
