After The Hunt

Bright House Dance at Pakuranga PEACOCK FEATHERS The homestead of Mr. and Mrs. Wills McLaughlin, Puhi Nui, Papatoetoe, was the scene of a very gay house dance on Saturday evening, when a large number of the members of the Pakuranga Hunt and their friends were entertained. Music was supplied by Walker and Hardman’s orchestra. The arrangements were in the hands ot a specially-appointed committee, including Mesdames W. McLaughlin, p. H. Smith, Owen Self, Misses C. Martin, E. Martin, E. Lloyd, Messrs. W Lloyd, C. Allen, P. H. Smith, A. Walker. O. Self, George Wyllie, with Mr. M. Wilson as secretary. The function had been arranged by the members of the club in honour of the large number of visiting huntsmen w bo had attended the point-to-point steeplechases earlier in th day. The rooms had been decked with gailycoloured balloons, and masses of brilliantly hued peacock feathers v/ere used with striking effect in the decorative scheme. Around the walls were several trophies, the reminder of earlier hunting days, which were the centre of much interest to the younger folk. During the "evening several hunting choruses were sung with much gusto. Messrs F. A. Price and A. E. Watkins full!lied the duties of leaders. Among those present were: Mrs. Wills McLaughlin, wearing a handsome model of blue and gold brocaded cloth, with finishing of french Jean Mclntosh, who wore a crimson frilled georgette gown. Mrs. Chris Allen, in a dainty frock of blue rose georgette, worn with a shawl to tone. Mrs. P. H. Smith, frock of moss rose crepe de chine. Mrs. J. F. Mills, Matakohe, who wore a model of gold brocade. Mrs. A. E. Watkins, Kohimarama, in a pretty frock of apple green crepe faille floral shawl. Mrs. O. R. Self, wearing a gown of sedge-green ninon. Mrs. W. B. Lloyd, smart frock of unrelieved black ring velvet. Mrs. J. M. Carpenter, model of black chiffon velvet. Miss Bernice Molloy, who wore a dainty frock of dawn shaded georgette, wiin hip drawings of silver. Miss Veronica Pabst, frock of shrimp pink taffeta with trimmings of blue rosea. Miss Dot Weston, frock of ecru lace, vorn over betty blue crepe de chine. Mutt Audrey Peacock, in a dainty frock of wedgewood blue taffeta with tioral ruse trimmings. Miss M. Bradstreet, frock of wild rose georgette with relief of silver and handsome embossed shawl. Miss Marjorie King, pretty taffeta frock in shades of cornflower blue, with panels of silver lame. Miss Adelene Walker, frock of flame georgette with trimmings of taffeta. Miss R. Frankham, model of ivory embossed velvet. Miss D. Leighton, rose pink georgette, with guipure lace trimmings. Miss Constance Martin wore a bronze taffeta frock with hem of gold lace. Miss Molly Upton in a irock of twilight taffeta with hem of silver. Miss Shirley Watkins, frock of apple green brocaded taffeta. Miss Helen Bewes, frock of powder blue crepe alonza. Miss S. Allen, frock of ivory taffeta, with drapings of gold. Miss Bessie Sladden, betty blue taffeta, with deep hem of silver lace finished with tiny posies." Miss Phyllis Weston, pretty lace frock worn over rose crepe de chine. Miss £3. Lloyd, lettuce green and silver taffeta frock. Miss Georgie Crook, frock of black crepe de chine. Miss Eva Martin, frock of delphinium blue ninon. Miss E. Somerset-Thomas, taffeta irock with overskirt of deep silk fringe. Miss Una Collings, nile green chiffon ve JJ et irock, worn with shawl to tone. Miss B. Crowther, frock of ivory brocaded taffeta.
