Younger Set Will Have Own Club
Debs of The Season Entertain Friends DANCE IN TOWER ROOM Auckland is to have an official “Younger Set’s” Club at last. A number of the brightest of the bright young people, including several of the debutantes presented at recent Government House balls and their friends, met on Saturday at a decidedly gay little dance party in the Tower Tearooms, where the formation of such a club was discussed and preliminary arrangements for its inauguration made. The Tower was transformed with fluttering streamers of vivid hues and bunches of gaily-bobbing balloons. George Shorland’s orchestra provided vivacious dance music. Among those present were:—* Miss Pat Newton, gold metal lace gown finished at the waistline with a spray of old gold and peach tinted flowers. Miss Allison Laery, corsage of sea green and silver lame with full, uneven skirt of seagreen georgette. Miss Vera Bewing, bouffant frock of moonlight blue taffeta with deep hem of cream Venetian lace. Miss Vieve Williams, gown of honey beige silk net embossed with polka dots, worn over beige crepe de chine. Miss Georgie MacConnell, picture frock of sunset taffeta inset with self-toned georgette. Miss Brownie Fox, black sequined model relieved with silver motifs. Miss Phyllis Andrews, gown of black ring velvet with the long skirt appliqued in floral design. Miss Bub McConnell, dainty frock of powder blue georgette and lace. Miss Pauline McConnell, chiffon velvet picture gown of deep amethyst, embroidered with silver beads. Miss. Joyce Bewing, frock of apple green georgette, diamante trimmed, with shoulder spray of lime and green coloured flowers. Miss Boris Whitson, peach coloured georgette frock inset with silver 'ace. Miss Dene Plummer, bouffant sprigged taffeta gown of palest cameo pink, with hem of silver lace. Miss Esme Fox, gown of black georgette, banded with diamante trimming and finished with a shoulder spray of pink flowers. Miss Enid Hosklng, corsage of black and silver metal cloth with skirt of foxglove georgette. Miss Molly Mitchelson, frock of black chiffon velvet, with a side draped panel disclosing the lining of cloth of silver. Miss Gwen Richards, ivory georgette frock embroidered with silver beads. Miss Jean Kent, lacquer red ring velvet model, with the skirt slightly draped to one side. DINNER DANCE TENNIS PLAYERS’ ANNUAL EVENT WELCOME CLUB The “Penrith” tea-rooms were very bright on Saturday evening, when the Welcome Tennis Club held its annual dinner* The hall had been artistically decorated with streamers of orange and black, the colours of the club, while on the dining tables were black floating bowls filled with vivid marigolds. In the absence of the president, Mr. Warwick Wilson, Mr. W. C. Pilgrim presided. Toasts were honoured and the evening was a social success. Mrs. Millar presented the various prizes won during the last season, including th©, Wilson Shield trophy. Binner was followed by a dance, at which friends of the 4 club were entertained. To receive the guests Mrs. W. C. Pilgrim wore a graceful gown of black satin with panels of paris tinted lace. Members of the committee present included: Mrs. Miller, black frock of frilled georgette. Mrs. Massey, frock of vionnese blue crepe alonza with rose embroidered motifs. Mrs. Mickleborough, orchid mauve frock of satin faconne with relief of futuristic design. Miss E. Glover, rose du barri frock of bengaline with pastel posies. Miss E. Bridgens, frock of absinthe green georgette with hand-painted designs. Miss E. Smith, corsage of silver lame with ivory geoi’gette. SURPRISE PARTY Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Campbell -were visited at their home in Victoria Avenue, Remuera, on Saturday evening by a number of friends, who staged a decidedly bright surprise party. Mrs. Campbell wore a dainty gown of primrose yellow georgette embroidered with crystal beads to receive her visitors, who included: Mrs. Harry Jackson, who wore a frock of black mariette panelled with black lace. Mrs. Ernest Alison, in a bouffant flowered frock of orchid and rose taffeta. Mrs. George Brown, whose frock was of chenille embossed petunia georgette mounted on silver tissue. Mrs. Bryce Hart, in a frock of gold and japonica rose embossed lace. Mrs. H. Wright, wearing an embroidered frock of ivory georgette over jade green crepe. Miss Noni Martin, in a frock of black taffeta with a corsage of cameo rose appliqued in flower motifs. Miss Joy Bartley, who wore a black taffeta frock with a lace hem bordered with coloured bands. Miss Dot Wilson, whose frock of black georgette was embroidered with black and rose beads. Miss Enid White, in a tiered frock of finely-pleated pompadour pink taffeta and tulle. Miss Nancy Sharland, wearing black Chantilly lace and crepe fleuri over a rose foundation. Miss Fitzgerald, in a picture frock of powder blue taffeta with an uneven hem of silver lace. Miss Carrington, who wore an embossed frock of delphinium blue crepe satin.
