BAZAAR AND SPORTS
HERNE BAY CARNIVAL To augment the building fund of the All Saints’ Church and advance the cause of the Herne Bay Queen in the forthcoming queen carnival, a bazaar and sports meeting was held in the Bayfield school grounds on Saturday. The grounds were crowded and the various stalls were well patronised. A good sports programme was drawn up, tennis, Rugby, Soccer and basketball being played. A fancy-dress Soccer match proved a popular attraction, and a special competition for the best decorated trolley or push-cart attracted some good exhibits. The Ponsonby Boys’ Brass Band was present and played selections during the afternoon. Results:
Seven-a-side Rugby: Curran Street 6, beat Richmond Road, 0; Bayfield, 16, beat Ponsonby, 0. Basketball:.Richmond Road, 34, beat Bayfield, 0; Curran Stret, 12, beat Ponsonby, 6; Richmond Road, 20, beat Curran Street, 10, in the final. Ball-rolling: Bayfield beat Ponsonby; Curran Street beat Richmond Road.
Best-sustained fancy dress: H. Grieg, 1; J. Wingrove, 2. Best-decorated vehicle: Lawrence Fairey (airplane), 1; Kenneth Evans, 2.
