WAIHI DAFFODIL SHOW
The annual daffodil show and bazaar held under the auspices of St. John's Church, Waihi, was opened in the King’s Hall on Thursday l>y the Mayor, Air. W. AI. Wallnut. The interior of the hall presented a magnificent sight, which was a credit to the hard-working and generous supporters of the function. Banked high in the centre of the hall was a gorgeous display of spring’s choicest blooms, the various colours having been blended with an artistic touch that transformed the individual entry into a composite picture of extreme beauty. The first prize for the 12 best daffodils went to Mrs. R. Baker, second prize Mrs. W. E. Busch; best decorated table, Mrs. Cornthwaite (iris and cornflower) first prize, Mr. V. Morgan (stocks) second prize. A large crowd w*as present for the opening ceremony, and again at night, the various stalls (sweets, cakes, fancy work, produce, flowers, etc.), all doing a thriving trade. Over £7O was taken on Thursday, and the committee is hoping to double this sum before the show closes.
