He got away well, but along the back the horse drifted, and in the straight finished fast to get third, separated from the outsider, Catkin, and second horse Blimp, by half a length, and a length and a-half, respectively. The running of Valkon was questioned, an inquiry being opened on the course after the race, and was adjourned until 11.15 cm. to-day. Valkon races in the colours of Mr. P. G. Harper. The disqualified
jockey, E. A. Keesing, is very well known, particularly in the Auckland Province, for it is here that he does most of his riding. He resides at Te Arohu. which is now quite a big training centre, purine the winter inonths Keesing went to Australia, sojourning in Brisbane, and combined
business with pleasure most successfully. riding a good deal and piloting ,i few winners. Among his most imliortant successes in the saddle were those on Muraahi (A.R.C. Handicap), Gascony (G.N. Foal Stakes), and liazzlo Dazzle (Wellington Stakes). Trainer A. E. Cox has a big team under his control at Te Aroha, among them being Valkon and Nancy Lee. This combination is at present in great favour for the Avondale Cup and Flying Handicap, in which they were both to have been ridden by Keesing. Valkon may join up with J. H. Wallace's team.
