Praise for Locomotive Made at the Thames

FIRST ARRIVES IN AUCKLAND The first bf three WF locomotives which are being built by A. and G. Price, Ltd., Thames, for the New Zealand railways, arrived at the Newmarket workshops yesterday. “rpHIS engine compares with the highest class of work done in the world,” said Mr. J. J. F. Mackley, locomotive engineer, this morning. . “It is beautifully finished, and reflects great credit on the firm. It is most gratifying to think that such excellent work is being done" in this country.” The locomotive has been, brought to Auckland for weighing', in preparation for general service. It will run on the Auckland lines for a few weeks, and will then probably be transferred to Frankton Junction. The other two locomotives of a similar design will leave Thames for Auckland in a few weeks’ time. In accordance with the instructions of the chief mechanical engineer, Mr. G. S. Lynde, the locomotive has been equipped with all modern appurtenances such as electric light, superheated boilers, and details of that kind. The firm of A. and G. Price is being kept busy at the present time with w'ork for the Railway Department, as extra pressure has been placed on the railway workshops because of the change-over from Newmarket to Olahuhu. Two locomotives are at the Thames, being repaired.
