ROLLO V. LINKMAN

The handicapper for the trotting event on the Ashburton racing card was evidently greatly impressed with the performance of the Auckland-owned Rollo at New Brighton last Saturday, as he has placed the Jingle representative 84 yards behind. This is another clear case of the evils of handicapping placed horses on the time basis.. The mark allotted Rollo on this occasion could be taken as an indication that he would appear unbeatable in the Novice at Wellington off the front but it is as well to remember that Linkman, who finished just in front of him last Saturday, is also on the front line to-morrow. On this occasion, however, Roy Berry will be behind Rollo, and that may make a difference at the finish.
