Golfers Make Merry
Waitemata Members Hold Annual Ball BRILLIANT FUNCTION One of Devonport's gayest annual tunctions, the Waitemata Golf Club’s ball, was held in the Parish Hall last evening. a throng of happy dancers rewarded the committee’s efforts to make this dance even more enjoyable than earlier ones. The hall was decorated with flags radiating from the centre with a background of drifting balloons and shaded lights; the pointed fronds of bamboo and the soft whiteness of arum lilies finished the walls and stage. Bright music was supplied by the Amateur Syncopaters find Miss Jean Macindoe. The chaperones were: Airs. George Gribbin, club president, flocked in black ring velvet softened with silver lace. METHODIST SOCIAL LEAGUE / PAPATOETOE BRANCH There was a large attendance at the social afternoon, organised by the Papatoetoe branch of the Aie.thodist Ladies’ Social League, and held in the Methodist Church Hall, Kolmar Road, Papatoetoe, on Tuesday afternoon. Stalls were erected in the hall, and were the means of adding a considerable amount to the league’s funds. These were in charge of the following members of the league:—Sewing stall, Alesdames W. Nesbitt and Baldero; sweet stall, Airs. 'F. Partridge; cake stall, Mrs. H. Bryant; produce stall, Mesdames Brown, Farrand, and Lindstrum; afternoon tea, Mesdames Dawson, and Lusby, assisted by members of the league. During the afternoon, a very enjoyable programme of musical numbers was provided by Airs. Penman, Misses r Alather and Aliss L. Andrew, vocal solos; Mr. Whitmore, violin solo; Miss Hughson, pianoforte solo; Misses M. Andrew, Nield,- B. Wyman, Rita Grinter, and* Zoe Richards, elocutionary items.
OTAHUHU CROQUET CLUB CARD AFTERNOON A very enjoyable card afternoon was held by the members of the Otahuliu Croquet Club in the Gas Company’s Social Hall, Great South Road, Otahuliu, on Wednesday. There was a large attendance, and some very keen and enjoyable games were played. The winner of the euchre trophy was Mrs. Miller, and the consolation prize was awarded to Mrs. Kimber. The 500 tournament was won by Mrs. Ilenwood, and Mrs. Eden claimed the consolation. At the conclusion of the tournaments, Mrs. J. Gillies, president, handed the trophies to the winners. The final afternoon of the series will be held on Wednesday, October 10.
