SHORT OF COAL
SUSSEX FROM CALCUTTA KAITOKE STANDING BY The Union Company’s steamer Sussex, en route from Calcutta to Auckland, reported by wireless yesterday that her coal supply was running low. and that she might require more fuel to enable her to reach Auckland. On receipt of this advice, the Auckland office of the Union Company wirelessed the collier Kaitoke, which is on its way from Newcastle to Auckland, asking her to stand by to replenish the Sussex’s bunkers, if necessary. The two vessels met this morning. If coal is urgently needed both ships will heave-to in the Tasman and it Will be transhipped. If the position is lidt so urgent the Kaitoke will convoy the Sussex to Auckland, and will be handy in case her supplies run out before the vessel makes port. The Sussex and the Kaitoke afe due at Auckland to-morrow afternoon.
