HOUSEWIVES’ GUIDE Egg prices remain unchanged on the City Markets. Hen eggs are bringing 1s 2d to 1s 3d a dozen; intermediate, 1s 1d to 1s 2d; and duck, 1s 2d to 1s 3d. Suplies are heavy. Farmers’ butter in the Marts is in moderate supply, with a good demand. It brings 1s 3d to 1s sd. First grade factory butter in the shops sells for cash at 1s 9d a lb; second grade, 1s 8d a lb. In the shops, for cash, sirloin fetches 10d a lb; prime ribs, 7d a lb; corned round, 8d a lb; beefsteak, 7d a lb; rump steak, 1s 2d a lb; gravy beef, 6d a lb; and whole loins, a lb. Cabbages bring 1d to 3d each in the Marts; cauliflowers, 6d to 4s 6d a dozen; beans, 9d to 2s a lb; green pans, 6d and 8d a lb; vegetable marrows, 3d to 7d each; celery, 6d to 6s 6d a bundle; rhubarb, 4s to 5s 6d a dozen bundles; spinach, 9d to Is 9d a dozen bundles; pumpkins, 1s to 3s each; spring onions, 2d to 8d a bundle; radish, 6d a dozen bundles; carrots, turnips, beet and parsnips, 1s to 1s 6d a dozen budles; asparagus, 2s to 3s 6d a bundle, and leeks 3d to 5d a bundle.
