OTAHUHU TROTTING CLUB

Season’s Schedules Drafted LIBERAL PRIZE-MONEY OFFERED Slight Reduction in Limits THE Otahuhu Trotting Club has drafted the schedule for its spring and summer carnivaJs, to be held in November, 1928, and February, 1929, respectively. The programmes, which have been submitted to the New Zealand Association for confirmation, are attractive and cannot fail to appeal’ to owners of trotters and pacers throughout the Dominion.

The pi'ize money is based on the ; same liberal scale as obtained last , season. X 14,100 being distributed among owners. 1 There lias been practically an allround tightening up of the classes, al- ; though in many cases the alteration is hardly noticeable. In the thousand pound events, the card has been tightened two seconds, while the square- j '4. -; + + • *

Unhoppled Races Deleted The sprint events are also marked with a slight reduction in the limits, while the two-mile heats for pacers not quite up to cup form are cut down two and three seconds. * I The Papatoetoe Handicap, formerly confined to the unhoppled brigade, with a 4.50 two mile limit, and the Mount Albert Handicap (4.48), which was run at the summer meeting under the same conditions, have been made open items, the limits being fixed at 4.40 and 4.38 respectively. The action of the Otahuhu Club in following the lead of Auckland in this respect marks the termination of the races for unhoppled iiorses only, and while there may be some who will regret the passing of these events, the majority will agrep with the clubs in deleting them from the cards. The improving pacers’ classes are set with a limit at each end, being open to horses that have gone 2.24 to the mile, but not faster than 2.17 at the time of nomination. These heats are run alternately over 10 and 12 furlotig's. Saddle Merchants Considered The Otahuhu Club continues to cater for the saddle merchants, notwithstanding rumour was rife that popular heats would be found missing | from the 1928-29 schedules. Instead of any deletion in the saddle races, there has been an addition at the summer carnival. Formerly a race of this description was staged the first day, and replaced on the final day with a harness heat. In the programme for February next, the Sylvia Park Handicap, a mile harness dash, has been converted to a saddle event, and this now gives those who show a preference for weight-carrying a race each day. INTERESTING WORK-OUT

TIGER SALVE AS INSTRUCTOR MOUNTAIN DELL IMPRESSES A rather interesting work out, in which seven horses took part, was witnessed at Alexandra Park on Tuesday morning, when the trotters Tiger Salve (C. G. Lee), Golden Huia (W. Lovegrove), Golden Gate (W. Morgan), Lord Haldane (G. Mitchell), and the pacers Lady Yvonne (G. Stubbs) and Mountain Dell (H. Mitchell), became associated in a spin. Several circuits were

traversed usefully and then Togo Lee. who was acting as drill instructor, sent the company at the double. Here JMcKendrick joined issue with A 1 Mac and the scene for the next round resembled a race. Tiger Salve was Viking pin, but when Mountain Del appeared on the outer, she made tn e Australian-bred square gaiter put hjs best foot forward in the run to tne box. The black daughter of Blue Mountain King and Whispering De has a fine turn of speed and when sn e can be educated to go away right m her races will not be long in getting on the winning list. It was a niern jaunt, and drivers and horses appearea to enter fully into the spirit of tn thing. It was a good education to a* concerned and a few more sim®* rallies would materially assist trj various candidates. TROTTING FIXTURES Wellington T.C. —September 15. Methven T.C.—Oct. 6.
