W.C.T.U. CONVENTION

An address on scientific temperament was given by Miss McCorkindale, of Australia, at the continuation yesterday of the convention of the Women's Christian Temperance Union. Miss McCorkindale believed that too much time was devoted to_ poll work, and not enough in stressing the effects of alcohol on the mind. Miss Lamb, a visitor from Honolulu, stated her pleasure at being at the convention. After reading a report by the the superintendent of Maori work, Mrs. Fulljames, Mrs. Kasper read a letter from the Niue Island “Y” branch to the Kobimarama “Y’s,” descriptive of activities'. Reports were read from the cradle roll superintendent, Mrs. Chandler, peace and arbitration superintendent, Mrs. Judson, and from the. district superintendents as follow: Literature, department. Miss Head; plans of work, Mrs. Williams; birthday league, Mrs. Bruce; immigration, Mrs. Neal. Officers elected were:—District president, Mrs. Lee Cowie; vice-president, Mrs. Morgan Richards; correspondence secretary, Mrs. Clarke; recording secretary, Mrs. Johnson; treasurer, Mrs. Taylor. District superintendents were elected as under: —Maori work, Mrs. Fulljames; cradle roll, Mrs. Raw; birthday league, Mrs. Bruce; peace and arbitration, Mrs. Carr; immigration, Mrs. Neal;_ plans of work, Mrs. Williams; L.’LL. work, Mrs. Kasper; notable days, Miss Read.
