Business On ’Change Improves
British Tobacco Firm
THE general tone of the market shows an improvement ancl considerable business has been transacted. British Tobaccos are firm with sales at 445, leaving little change in the market.
In the banking section National Bank of Australasia and Bank of New South Wales are sought after, both shares sold last evening at increased prices: Bank of New Zealand remains firm with buyers 61s, sellers 61s 3d. Insurance remain exceptionally firm; little business has been transacted in these shares. Coal shares still attract considerable attention. Hikurangi, Pukemiro and Taupiri remain firm, while Renown have steady buyers at 9s 9d, sellers 12s 6d. Timber scrip still improves. Most of these shares are now well supported: few shares are offering. Mining is lifeless. Waihis have buyers at lss. sellers 12s 3d, and business at last call at 12s Id.
All Government and local body securities are in demand.
