SIR EDWARD WARD DEAD

The death has occurred of Colonel Sir Edward Ward, aged 75. Sir Edward Ward was born at Oban, his father being a captain in the Navy. He entered the army in 1574, and served in the Sudan expedition in ISSS. He also saw special service with the Ashanti expedition, 1595-96. During the South African War he was at Ladysmith. He was Permanent Under-Secretary of State to the War Office from 1901 -to 1914, when he was created a baronet.
