SIR EDWARD WARD DEAD
VETERAN BRITISH SOLDIER (United P.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) (United Service) Reed. 9.55 a.m. LONDON, Tues. The death has occurred of Colonel Sir Edward Ward, aged 75. Sir Edward Ward was born at Oban, his father being a captain in the Navy. He entered the army in 1574, and served in the Sudan expedition in ISSS. He also saw special service with the Ashanti expedition, 1595-96. During the South African War he was at Ladysmith. He was Permanent Under-Secretary of State to the War Office from 1901 -to 1914, when he was created a baronet.
