CARD PARTY DEVONPORT CROQUET PLAYERS' ENTERTAIN There- was a large attendance of visitors when the Devonport Croquet Club entertained at a card afternoon in the Masonic Hall yesterday 1 Tables were set out for bridge, five hundred and eiichre and the highest stores, were made by Mrs. Webster, Mrs. Lydford and Mrs. Gallan. Bowls of spring flowers brightened the afternoon tea tables. Next month the club is giving another card afternoon, the proceeds of which will be in aid of the poor of Auckland. Mrs. Newell, president of the club, received the members and visitors. Among the players were: Mrs. Foster, secretary, Mrs. Vaile, treasurer, Mrs. JPailaret, Mrs. Pacey, Mrs. Flinn, Mrs. L. KITCHEN EVENING FOR BRIDE-ELECT Mrs. McEwan and Mrs. Cummings were hostesses at a kitchen evening given at the residence of Mrs. MeEwan, in Te Puke, for Miss E. Heerdegen, who is shortly to be* married. The drawing room was artistically decorated with coloured balloons. Duets were sung by the Misses Maude and Mavis Kerr, and a competition for word-building skill was won by Miss Place. Miss Mavis Kerr won a musical competition. Miss D. Heerdegen delighted those present with her pianoforte solos. After supper the guests opened the kitchen presents, which were very numerous and useful. Mr. Warren Brown gave witty recitations. Much enjoyment was derived from a mock court. Mrs. McEwan received her guests in a putty georgette frock. Mrs. Cummins wore black crepe de chine, with diamante ornament. Miss E. Heerdegen wore a very dainty frock of. silk lace, with bands of pale green georgette. Others present were: Mrs. Watson, pale green crepe de chine, Mrs. Holden, black georgette, trimmed with steel beads; Mrs. Heerdegen, figured crepe de chine; Mrs. Rybnrn, striped crepe de chine; Miss D. Heerdegen, pale pink crepe de chine; Miss O’Driscoll, mauve satin trimmed with silver; Miss G. Dwyer, white crepe de chine; Miss C. "Wilson, mauve crepe de chine; Miss M. Morton, green shot taffeta; Miss D. Sherratt, pale primrose satin; Miss N. Ryburn, electric blue crepe de chine; Miss M. Kerr, black crepe de chine; Miss Mavis Kerr, silver lame; Miss A. Maloney, iris mauve satin; Miss E. Brown, black panne velvet: Miss S. Joyce, primrose satin; Miss M. Gresham, biscuit georgette; Miss A. Thomas, vieux rose satin; Miss F. King, pink embroidered georgette.
