ANCIENT POLICE COURT
OTAHUHU’S BUILDING NO PRIVACY FOR CHILDREN’S CASES (From Our Own Correspondent.) OTAHUHU, To-day. The lack of accommodation at the Otahuhu Police Court is causing great inconvenience to officials using it. Tenders will close shortly for the painting and renovation of the present old and dilapidated buildings. What is needed, however, is a new building, with accommodation in keeping with the growth of the large district now being served by this court. A most deplorable state of affairs exists at present in connection the children’s court, which is held* on the same day as the ordinary court, and in the same building. The cases are heard in the clerk of the court’s room, but to reach this the young folk have to be guided through the crowd waiting for the ordinary oases. Instead of the juvenile receiving the privacy which is intended for them, their names are whispered through the crowd, and the news is soon broadcast through the town that young so-and-so was up to-day. It is suggested that arrangements could be made to hold the children’s court in a separate building in another part of the town.
