FINAL COMMUNITY SING

LUSTY TOWN HALL VOICES The roof of the Town Hall must have been well-nigh lifted from the walls last evening, when some 2,000 people took part in the final community singing entertainment of the season. An orchestra was requisitioned, and under the guidance of several leaders who knew their business, the voices swelled in magnificent crescendo not lacking in harmony. The chairman was Mr. M. Guthrie, and, one of the most energetic leaders, the Rev. Jasper Calder. Songs were given by Miss Alma McGruer, Miss Etta Field, and Mr. Lawrence North, vho received merited applause. The “sing” began with the cheergerm song. Then came “Moonlight and Roses,” or the “Massacre of Lemare,” “Old Folk at Home,” “Clementine,” and “Bells of St. Mary’s.” Of course, “Annie Laurie” was inevitable. This was followed by other favourites such as “A Wee Deoch and Doris” and “Mary Lou.” Then “Sons of the Sea” rang out in patriotic fervour, to be followed by “Pack Up Your Troubles” as a grand final.e The collection totalled £3l 10s, but expenses will absorb the greater part of that sum.

Although it is not yet possible to state definitely what will be the net proceeds of the season’s singing it is anticipated that a sum of about £l2O will be available for, distribution among some six charities.

The wonder dog, Rin-Tin-Tin, has given many evidences of intelligence. His greatest test was said to have been given him in his new role in “Rinty of the Desert,” which is shortly lo be released by Master Pictures. This picture would not be possible were it not for the dog’s intelligence. In this picture much is made of a desert dog’s experience in a big city, where he is adopted by a little girl whose guardian runs a dime museum. The dog has to show how he is affected by the noises and crowds of a city. One of the bits in the picture has to do with Rinty coming across some abandoned puppies and promptly taking them in charge. There are a number of touches in the picture which promise to make it one of Rinty’s biggest hits. In the cast of “Rinty of the Desert” are Audrey Ferris, Carol Nye, Otto Lederer and Paul Panzer. Ross Lederman directed it. J
