FARMERS AND POLITICS
UNION BRANCHES AROUSED HON. A. D. McLEOD’S REMARKS (From Our Own Correspondent.) MORRINSVILLE, To-day. The recent speech of the Hon. A. D. AlcLeod regarding the alleged activities of organisers of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union in politics on behalf of the Country Party has created a stir in the ranks of the branches of the union. The most recent to discuss the matter was the Morrinsville branch. Air. S. Ferguson suggested that the attention of the Auckland executive should be drawn to the Minister’s statements, so that they might be officially denied or confirmed. The chairman, Mr. P. S. Philpott: It is a knotty problem, and I think it would be inadvisable for us to interfere. Mr. Thompson: It cannot be denied that the Farmers’ Union funds are being used for political propaganda in “Farming First.” Mr. Ferguson: The Alinister referred to the union’s organisers. It was decided to write to the Auckland provincial executive on the subject. ____________________
