No Hawker's Licence. —Hawking without a licence cost P. H. R. Horner court costs at the Police Court this morning. Boy’s Thigh Broken. Malcolm Pearse, a schoolboy, of Lower Uutt, fractured his left thigh while playing football yesterday afternoon. He was taken to hospital. Wandering Horses. —J. Gee and J. Ratcliffe, who have been in the habit of allowing their horses to wander at random, were each fined 5s and costs at the Police Court this morning. Illegal Race Betting. —For betting at totalisator odds at the Feilding races on April 7 last, Patrick Scallion, who pleaded guilty, was fined £lO in the Feilding Magistrate’s Court yesterday. —P.A. Mechanics’ Bay Ferry. —lt was reported at yesterday’s meeting of the Auckland Harbour Board that the new vehicular ferry landing at Mechanics’ Ray would be ready for use before Christmas. Pontoon At Takapuna. —At yesterday’s meeting of the Auckland Harbour Board the Takapuna Surf and Live-Saving Club were granted permission to moor a pontoon off shore so long as it remained clear of the cable area. Fire in Boardinghouse. —One room and its contents were damaged by fire early this morning in a boardinghouse at 49 College Hill. The house is owned by Mr. H. Stevens and occupied by Airs. Richards. * The contents were insured in the Sun Office for £ 550. Fall On Slippery Street. —Mr. Carey, living at 48 Hobson Street, slipped and fell in Wellesley Street last evening. breaking a bottle in his pocket and receiving a chest injury. He was removed to the hospital by the St. John Ambulance, where after treatment he returned home. Swamp Worker Injured. —lnjured by a blasting accident in the Ruatangata swamp last week, Air. Jack Pecar arrived at Auckland this morning by tlie Whangarei express. He was taken to hospital by the St. John Ambulance for treatment. His eyes and face were badly injured. Chimney Fires. The City Fire Brigade received a call at 12.37 p.m. to-day to a chimney fire at 5 Ligar Place. The Devonport Brigade received a similar call at seven o’clock : last evening to 18 Hamama Street, and j tll ° Parnell and Remuera Brigades atj fended another chimney fire at 9.4* a m j to-day at 18 Walters Road, All the fires were extinguished before anv | damage was done.
