AUCKLAND CHAMPIONSHIP ROBERTS DEFEATS WARREN The Auckland amateur billiards championship lor the Billiards, Limited, Shield, was continued last evening, when E. V. Roberts, New Zealand amateur champion, defeated -E. w. Warren. Tho champion proved to be in excellent form, and playing clean, crisp billiards, notched a nice all-round break of 73 at his fifth visit to the table. Two cues later he added a 29, making tho scores 127 to 34 in his favour. Warren did not get many chances in the early stages and his opponent continued to dominate the game, giving ono of his best displays. A further break of 42 was made by Roberts and Warren then got a chance. He made consecutive breaks if 48 and 15 off th© red, and at the 27th visit tmd practically evened up the scores, the total then being 251-243 in Roberts’s favpur. Roberts, however, continued in his best stylo and mixing his game well soon established a lead by making breaks of 69, 31 and 64, adding 212 points in eight visits to the table. He ran to points a few cues later with an unfinished break of 31. Warren played a good uphill game, but found ins opponent too consistent.. The final scores were:—E. V. Roberts, 500 (breaks, 20, 73, 29, 42, 68, 31, 64 and 31 unfinished): E. W. Warren 2SB (breaks, 20, 22, 48 and 45). M. D. White, provincial champion, will play E. J. Morrison, Pukekohe, this evening.
